In Luke 13:11-16, we find the story of Jesus healing a woman who had been bent double for 18 years. We could have taken that woman to any doctor in the world and had X-rays and other tests run on her and NO ONE would have diagnosed her with a spirit of infirmity. Her symptoms would have scientific names, a visible effect on her spine and a medical prognosis for her future. However, the problem was spiritual, not physical. Just like the man lowered through a hole in the roof, the problem was spiritual. Once Jesus informed him that his sins were forgiven, He commanded the man to rise up and go home. The physical manifestation of healing followed the spiritual revelation of forgiveness.
The answer for spirits of infirmity is to understand your spiritual authority in Christ. If there was a spider in your house you would kill it. You know you have authority and power over spiders. We will walk in the authority that we know we have, and in the areas in which we don't know our authority, we will learn to adjust to the circumstances.
The greatest need in the body of Christ is that of knowing our authority over the world of darkness. Most of us do not. We expect God to do everything for us 'if it is His will.' Otherwise, we simply learn to live with the problem. We can't fabricate authority mentally. We already have it spiritually. The answer is to see it in the Spirit, and then exercise it. Jesus knew His authority and exercised it effectively against demons, sicknesses and even storms. We have that same potential. But we must come to the same place of 'knowing' our spiritual authority. That will only happen to the degree that we are 'hearing' Him. Faith comes by hearing (Rom. 10:17). No faith or weak faith means we haven't been hearing Him.
We tend to live on the level of our emotions and senses, not on the spiritual level of true faith because the cares of the world choke the Word. The doctor’s report chokes the Word. The symptoms choke the Word. The heartache chokes the Word. The endless adjustments because of our condition choke the Word. This is the Word that is being choked: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19)
Once we ‘see’ this authority with our re-born spirits, we will be able to enforce God’s will in our bodies.
